About Me

Hello! My name is Christina Manxhari (MAHN-JAHR-EE). I am from Worcester, Massachusetts. I live with both my parents and two younger sisters: Violet and Julianna. If you were guessing what my nationality is from the unusual pronunciation of my last name: I am Albanian. Here is a picture of my family and I. I am featured as the second person from the far left.

I attended Doherty Memorial High School before coming to the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science. My favorite subjects there were biology and chemistry. I was sad to leave Doherty, but I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go to Mass Academy! Plus, two awesome fellow classmates from my sending school were accompanying me. Attending this school is such a privilege. You're surrounded by great, intelligent, and helpful people. I know getting through this year will require a lot of work and adaptation, but I'm also certain this new experience will be well worth it.

At my sending school, I was a member of the Worcester Crew Team. Rowing, especially on a Varsity level, has shown me the amount of determination, work, and pain it takes to excel with the constant cooperation of team members. Displayed below, you will find a picture taken from a bridge that offers a great view of my boat racing in our last race of the season in the Spring of 2015. If you are interested in participating in any summer rowing programs or want to learn more about the team, click this to navigate to the the Worcester Public Schools Crew website.

My favorite things to do in my leisure time are play the piano or draw. I’ve played the piano for 7 years now. I mostly play classical music, but I’m really determined to get some Jazz music in my range of abilities. My favorite piece to play is Prelude in D flat by Reinhold Gliére. Drawing is a passion of mine. I prefer to use charcoal or pencil as my media. Displayed below, you will find a detailed drawing of a lion I made a couple years back.

I also love to hike and bike. Below, you can see a funny picture of me on the top of Mount Monadnock with my exhausted friend, Maria.

Some Other Personal Shebang

My favorite show is The Office (U.S. version). I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you enjoy dry humor (if you do, we should become friends). I love watching foreign dramas. My favorites include: Udaan, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Sunflower, The Forgiveness of Blood, and Ode to my Father. Movies that move me enough to cry are good movies.

I listen to all kinds of music, but my all time favorite band is Mumford and Sons. I also regularly listen to Ingrid Michaelson, Norah Jones, and my newfound obsession: Stromae.

My favorite books are The Bell Jar by Thrity Umrigar; The Space Between Us by Sylvia Plath; and The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown.

I also love spending time with my family.
