Hello! My name is Clarise Liu, and I am a junior at the Massachusetts Academy of Mathematics and Science, a high school located at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Though I have always felt more comfortable with music and writing than with science and math, I quickly fell in love with computer science; each programming language is so dynamic and opens a broad horizon of possibilities. In addition, I've always loved engineering and everything machines can do, especially with improving lives. In the future, I hope to follow a career at Google that utilizes both fields.
Mass Academy is the sixth school I have attended. I have always lived in Worcester and attended Worcester Public Schools, but have never spent more than three years at the same place. I first attended Jacob Hiatt Magnet School, moved to Clark Street School for first to third grade, transferred to Worcester Arts Magnet School for fourth to fifth grade, and finally moved to Sullivan Middle School as part of the Goddard Scholars Academy. GSA is an accelerated middle school program that continued at South High Community School. I was involved in almost every club at SHCS, including the tutoring program, band, Science Olympiad, math team, NHS, Tri-M, cross country, and student council. You can read more about them in my clubs page!
I was very hesitant to leave South but still wanted to see what was out there. There was a huge adjustment period at first; the classes, clubs, and environment was nothing like previous schools I attended. But, I don't regret the decision more. This academically-driven school is filled with challenging classes, unique extracurriculars, and amazing people. Having thrown myself into almost everything this school offers, I was able to continue what I did in the past while learning more at a higher level, faster than ever. Long story short, I pretty much love everything and everyone here; it's the sleep-deprived family I never knew I needed.
