Science and Technical Writing

STW, or Scientific and Technical Writing, is taught by Dr. Sumner. In class we learn how to correctly format and write scientific papers. One day in class, Dr. Sumner toasted a bagel and applied cream cheese and everyone had to write a methodology in preparation for the methodology we were going to write for our STREAM projects.

In recent years, students performed science experiments designed for children in 4th through 6th grade and create a binder full of the experiment methodologies in kid friendly formats. The experiment I chose was Oobleck.

This year every junior had to write a research paper about an invention that changed history. I chose to write about the light bulb.

For our end of the year project we had to write a book for children about a topic in Medieval Europe. We could work individually or in pairs. I chose to work with Emily Cavanaugh. The books would be used at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, MA. First we had to write a proposal letter discussing why we were qualified to write the book. Then we went about writing the electronic book.
