Math is taught by Mr. Barys. In math we periodically get assigned Problems of the Week or POWs. The assignment is due exactly one week from when we receive it. Our first POW, POW1, was about a farmer who broke her eggs on the way to market and needed to know the number of eggs she had for the insurance company.
Our third POW, POW3, was about twins or triplets that wanted identical colored gum balls and the maximum cost for different machines.
Another POW that I completed was POW 13 which involved discovering the math and patterns behind a simple game of peg hopping.
We also got one PDQ (Problem Done Quickly) which meant that we only had one night to complete it. The problem involved having a cube with side lengths n and making n-1 cuts into each of the three planes of the cube producing many smaller cubes. We had to investigate how many of the smaller cubes had faces that were on the exterior of the larger cube and how many of their exterior faces they had. Soon after the PDQ we received a POF (Problem Of the Fortnight) which meant we had fourteen days to complete it. This POF was the same as the PQD except the original shape was a tetrahedron.
