Flavor Flav was born William Jonathan Drayton, Jr. on March 16, 1959 in Roosevelt, New York. As a child he was classically trained as a pianist, however, upon meeting Carlton Ridenhour--better known as Chuck D--at Adelphi University in Long Island he joined Public Enemy--along with DJ Terminator X and Professor Grif--and they were soon regarded as an important hip-hop act upon the release of their debut album Yo! Bum Rush The Show in 1987.

Flavor Flav soon established himself as the original rap sidekick as well as Public Enemy's main visual focus with his gold teeth, large sunglasses, and clock accessories. As Public Enemy began to fade out of the spotlight Flavor Flav still kept his name floating around the news from his various encounters with authorities to his work on his solo album--two completed albums were reportedly given to Def Jam and were then rejected by the label.

Although during his lifetime Flavor Flav struggled with drug abuse and he also has had his license revoked an astonishing 43 times he is clean of drugs as of 2004. In 2004, Flavor Fav was a star in the third season of The Surreal Life.

Flavor Flav has six children from two women and he currently lives in New York.
