BMES is a national professional society that was started on February 1, 1968 in Illinois. There are now more than 87 student chapters at colleges and universities in the United States. The purpose of BMES is "To promote and enhance biomedical engineering knowledge worldwide and its utilization for the health and wellbeing of humankind."

What are my options after graduation?
With an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, you can pursue a career or further your education by earning an advanced degree. You can get a Masters of Science with is thesis based or a Masters of Engineering which is viewed as a good technical degree. You can also earn a PhD, which is useful if you want to do research. Medical school is also an option for BME students. WPI's undergraduate BME program is a great major for pre-med studies.

Biomedical engineers can work at hospitals, at universities doing research or teaching, at other medical or research institutions, and at companies that develop products.
Where should I look for jobs?
Medzilla, MassMEDIC, Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, and BMEnet are all good job search databases specifically for biology related fields. Monster and Careerbuilder are other sites that often have BME job postings.
