STW, or Science and Technical Writing (or Sumner Teaches Writing), is taught by Dr. Sumner. The technicalities of writing in scientific prose are different from the technicalities in normal writing. After my first three weeks in Dr Sumner's class, I learned more about writing than I would have at two years at my sending school. I learned how to do a lot of legitimate, applicable writing in this class.

In order to improve our scientific writing skills, as well as help the local schools, each mass academy student made an experiment for 4th-5th graders.

I also wrote essays about crop circles, nature, the printing press and techtonic motion.
