1.) What force is required to stop the car?
Conversions- lbs-kg 3200lbs= (1kg/2.2lbs) 3200lbs= 1454.5kg
1ft-m 1ft= (12in/1ft)(2.54cm/1in)(1m/100cm)= .3048m
30 m/h- m/s= 30m/h=(1hr/3600s)(2580ft/1mil)(12in/1ft)(2.54cm/1in)(1m/100cm)= 6.56m/s
Force
Favgd= - ½ mv2
Favg
(.3048) = - ½ (1454.5) (6.56)2
Favg (.3048) =727.25 ( 44.2225)
Favg (.3048) =32160.81
Favg =32160.81 /(.3048)
Favg = 105514.48 N
2.) With Seat belt
Conversion- 160lbs-kg = 160lb(1kg/2.2lb)= 72.73 Kg
Favg=
- ½ mv2
Favg= - ½ (72.73)(6.562)/.3048
Favg= 1564.91/.3048
Favg= 5134.24 N
3.) Without a seat belt
Conversion- .2ft-m .2(12in/1ft)(2.54cm/1in)(1m/100cm)= .061m
Favg=
- ½ mv2
Favg= - ½ (72.73)(6.562)/.061
Favg=25654.37 N
Favg= 1564.91/.061
4.) While going 60 m/h
Conversion- 60 m/h- m/s= 60m/h=(1hr/3600s)(2580ft/1mil)(12in/1ft)(2.54cm/1in)(1m/100cm)= 13.11m/s

Essay
Air bags were made in the 1980’s to save lives. They were specifically designed for head-on collisions. They come out in less than a tenth of a second.
The air bag has three parts that when all together save thousands of lives. The first part is the bag which is folded into the steering wheel or dash board. Then the sensor inside of it tell the bag when to inflate. It inflates when there is a force equal to the car running into a wall at 10 to 15 miles per hour. And then there is the inflation system. The air bad inflates by sodium azide and potassium nitrate that react in split seconds to hot nitrogen gas which inflates the bag and sends it bursting out of the wheel or dash board. The bag actually has holes in it so it can deflate quickly to get out of your way.
The air bag is a life saver. It senses a force of 10 to 15 miles per hour, inflates and saves your head from going through the windshield, and then deflates so you can get out of the car as quick as possible.
