About Me
Hi! My name is Abhiraam Venigalla, and I am a current junior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA. My sending school is Sharon High School from Sharon, Massachusetts. I am interested in engineering and medicine, and the applications of their intersections in the development of surgical robots and biomedical devices. Science Olympiad
Back at my sending school, I was a very committed member of the Sharon High School Science Olympiad. Some competitions I’ve attended include the Harvard Undergraduate Science Olympiad, Brown University Science Olympiad, and the Wentworth Institute of Technology State Science Olympiad.

FIRST Robotics
Last year, I did FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) in Sharon. I helped build and test autos, qualifying for worlds. This year, I am on the programming team for FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team 190: Gompei and the HERD, working on our new superstructure and autos while helping out on the social media front.

Science Fair
This past year was my first year participating in a science fair, and my project was a multimodal app that detects, classifies and segments brain tumors within MRI images. My project qualified for the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair. Here is the link to my project from last year.

HOSA
HOSA
Sophomore year was my second year participating in HOSA because I aspire to become a health professional in the future. I competed in Medical Terminology and Medical Innovation. I also got selected for a selective research program through Worcester State University where we did research on sleep medicine. It was a good introduction to the research process.

Wet-Lab Research
During the summer, I did wet-lab research at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where I did research on Drosophila Melanogaster and the effects of factors on sex-specific splicing, which can help for research in diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Personal Hobbies

Music
I played the piano for 6 years as of now, playing on my Honors Concert and Jazz Band at my sending school. I was 2nd trumpet for band and piano player for jazz band. I also currently play trumpet in the WPI orchestra, which is very fun!

JV XC
Cross Country
I was on the JV cross country team in the fall of my sophomore year and let me tell you....it was a lot of miles for a first timer. We ran about 3 miles every day and even ran 5-6 miles on some days.

Traveling
I love to travel around the world and have been doing so since I was a one-year-old! I’ve been to places from the Niagra Falls all the way to places as far as Dubai, Aruba, and France! In total, I’ve been to around 7 different countries. Look through the carousel down below to learn more about my travels! Feel free to hover or click on the carousel for descriptions!
