Math at Mass Academy is called "Mathematical Modeling", and is taught by Mr. Barys. This class is much different from any math class I have taken before. For instance, homework does not consist of many simple problems, but only one or two difficult ones. We use lots of software in this class, including Mathematica and Geometer's Sketchpad. These help us to better understand the problems we are solving. It is a challenging class, but we also have fun by watching math-related musicals ("Fermat's Last Tango").
The most interesting math problems which we cover in this class are probably the POWs (Problems of the Week). This is the second POW that I completed, and here is my third POW
Since then, we have done a few other POWs. The first is about a
MU system .
The second is about
peg jumping .
My favorite math assignment of the year was the
POF (or problem of the fortnight).
It is supposed to be done ove a period of two weeks and is about tetrahedrons. I worked very hard on
this assignment, and I am really proud of it.
