Bland Addison

Welcome to homepage of Bland Addison, an Associate Professor of History at Worcester Polytechnic Institute  in the Department of Humanities and Arts.  I teach courses in intellectual and cultural history, particularly on Western political ethics and on Islamic Civilization.  I also teach courses and advise projects for the International Studies program, including student projects in Morocco, India, Botswana, Namibia, Thailand, Costa Rica, London, Copenhagen, Paris, and Venice.  One of my courses focuses on wars and social conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa, and I advise a related inquiry seminar where students write a research paper on one of these issues.

On March 19, 2015, Dr. David Patel (Brandeis University) came to WPI to give a presentation entitled “De-Mystifying ISIS.”  His presentation can be found at: https://video.wpi.edu/Watch/Nx3z2Z8Q

Slides accompanying the talk are here.

I am currently the co-director of the Morocco Project Center with my colleague Professor Tahar El-Korchi, Chair WPI Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.  To learn more about doing a humanities and arts project in Morocco click here for a presentation (ppt file).  Give the file a few seconds to open as it has many great pictures!

Here is a photo of me many years ago:   A recent photo of me on project duty in Morocco, with Haseeb & Morgan & a young Berber child from Zimri and parents.
